Junior B Footballers record 1st round win

East Cork Junior B Football Championship 1st Round Venue: Sallybrook Tues 23rd Sept Carraig na bhFear 2-14 Lisgoold 0-13 Well done to our Junior B footballers who had a good win over Lisgoold in the first round of the East Cork JBFC on Tuesday night. The match was delayed due to a floodlighting issue in the Glanmire venue, with Jimmy Hickey coming up trumps as the saviour of the hour, can’t beat a good mechanic! In a free flowing game, Carraig lead from pillar to post, with Colm O’Reilly, Con Burns, William Spillane and Liam Ryan all impressing in the first half. We lead 0-09 to 0-07 at the break, with the concession of some soft frees keeping Lisgoold firmly in contention. Lisgoold dominated the early stages of the second half with some fine periods of possession football causing Carraig problems, but with Colm uneering from frees and Cormac Hill, Liam Ryan and Padraig O’Sullivan all doing well in attack, we held our lead. A goal from Padraig O’Sullivan put 6 between the sides midway through the half, but Lisgoold reduced the margin to three with some well taken points. A late goal from Colm O’Reilly, after a long ball in that deceived the keeper and went straight to the net, put us 6 points ahead again and a late point for Liam Ryan rounded off the scoring as we progress to the next round on a scoreline of 2-14 to 0-13. Minor Hurlers advance to County Championship Final

Rebel Og County Minor B Hurling Championship Semi Final Sat 20th Sept – Donoughmore Carraig na bhFear 2-07 Dromtarriffe 1-07 Our Minor Hurlers have qualified for the County Minor B Hurling Championship final for first time since 2005 with a hard fought win over North Cork Champions Dromtarriffe in Donoughmore. Dromtarriffe had the better of the early exchanges and lead by 0-03 to 0-01 after 8 minutes. Carraig began to settle into the game and were level after 12 minutes, as both sides hit a number of wides in difficult underfoot conditions. Carraig keeper Christopher Cremin was called into action on a number of occasions but cleared his lines well, with Diarmuid Murphy and Cathal Cronin performing well in front of him. By half time there was still no separating the sides, with the score Carraig 0-05 Dromtarriffe 0-05 in a low scoring game. The game turned quickly at the start of the second half however, as Carraig struck for two early goals to put us in the driving seat. A point followed on the 36th minute to put us 7 points in front before Dromtarriffes centre back picked up a second yellow card with 20 minutes to play. Carraigs extra man allowed the team to soak up any pressure but the scores dried up from here, with Carraig adding just one further point, a late score from the excellent Paul Sheehan, who gave a man of the match performance at midfield throughout. Dromtarriffe pressed hard to get the scores they needed to get back into the game, but a combination of poor shot selection and Christopher Cremin in...
