Carraig advance to East Cork Quarter Final

Match report taken from http://www.eastcorkgaa.com/index.cfm?page=viewResultHC&id=5036 Aaron Dorgan was the toast of Carraig Na bhFear yesterday evening after a brilliant performance in his sides win over Lisgoold in Watergrasshill in the third round of the East Cork Oil JAHC scoring two vital goals and setting up a third which places Carraig Na bhFear into the quarter finals where they will meet Sarsfields. In near perfect conditions for hurling on a fantastic pitch the sides exchanged points in the opening twelve minutes and remained level, but a determined move up the right wing a minute later saw Dorgan shrug off two tackles before hitting the ball into the roof of the Lisgoold net on the run. Carraig Na bhFear tagged on two further points and to be honest most of the time goals win matches and despite a point in reply from John Cashman, the umpire had to reach for the green flag again as Carraig’s Paul Sheehan saw his shot come of the post, but quickest to react was Dorgan who left the defender for dead and dispatched home his second goal and with seven minutes to go to the break Carraig led by seven points. Lisgoold struck three further first half points to Carraig’s two scores before the short whistle in an enthralling first half. Lisgoold started the brighter in the second half with Cashman pointing twice, but then Dorgan ran through the middle of the field from his own ‘65’ to the Lisgoold 21 meter line unchallenged before passing to James Meahan who struck Carraig’s third goal of the afternoon and with just two minutes gone in the...

Junior B’s advance to third round

East Cork Junior B Hurling Championship 2nd Round – Sun 12th July in Lisgoold Carraig na bhFear 1-16 Dungourney 2-10 Carraigs Junior B Hurlers bounced back from opening round disappointment to record a well deserved back door win over Dungourney in Lisgoold. A youthful Carraig side became a lot more youthful as early as the first minute, when experienced centre back Colm O’Reilly was forced with injury. Thomas Coleman came on in his place to leave an all minor half back line guarding the fort for Carraig. Early points from Oisin Crowley and Cian Dorgan pushed Carraig 0-03 to 0-0 ahead after five minutes, before Dungourney replied with two pointed frees. The half forward line of Conor Hayes, Brendan Murphy and Cian Dorgan were hurling well and when Brendan was unceremoniously upended in the square, we were awarded a penalty. Cians effort was well saved however, but Oisin pointed the resulting 65 to push us two ahead again. With Gary Geaney and Michael Ahern hurling well in the half backline, we had plenty possession but at times the final ball into the dangerous inside forward line of Sean O’Sullivan, Oisin and Cormac Hill left a bit to be desired. The sides exchanged points again, corner back Barrie Casey marauding forward to pick off a beauty. Approaching half time we lead by a single point before a well taken point for Dungourney on the stroke of half time left it 0-06 apiece at the break. Dungourney came flying out of the traps with a goal inside 30 seconds after the restart, but this young team didn’t panic and within 2...
