Junior A Hurling Semi Final This Sunday

East Cork Junior A Hurling Championship Semi Final Sun 16th August 2pm in Ballinacurra Carraig na bhFear v St. Ita’s All roads lead to Ballinacurra on Sunday next as our lads look to advance to a fourth East Cork decider since 2008. Our opponents on Sunday are well known to us, St. Ita’s having already beaten Carraig in the first round of this years championship back in June. Two second half goals proved to be the difference on the day, but Carraig have regrouped since that defeat, with wins over Russell Rovers, Lisgoold and Sarsfields all showing the character this team possesses. St. Ita’s boast one of the top forwards in the country in Seamus Harnedy and he’s ably assisted by some excellent hurlers in the O’Briens and O’Loughlins. Carraig will have to produce their best performance of the season yet if we are to make it back to the final. Throw in time in Ballinacurra on Sunday is 2pm and we encourage all our supporters to come along and support the team from start to finish. Best of luck...

Junior Hurlers take league points

A busy weekend last week with our Junior A Hurlers taking on Erins Own on Sunday night in Carraig while on Monday night our Junior B Hurlers travelled to Shanagarry to play Russell Rovers. The A’s had a comfortable win over a depleted Erins Own outfit, with a number of players getting their chance to impress the selectors for this weeks championship semi final. Final score Carraig 6-23 Erins Own 2-13. On Monday night the Junior B hurlers picked up their second win of the league campaign with a convincing 1-16 to 0-06 win over Russell Rovers in Shanagarry. A first half goal from a Pádraig O’Sullivan sideline set Carraig on their way, leading 1-06 to 0-05 at the break. Second half points from Ryan Galvin, Oisin Crowley, Joe O’Donnell and Sean O’Sullivan all helped contribute to a 10 point win. With 3 games remaining, a place in the final is certainly still up for grabs. The B’s will play Erins Own on Monday night 17th August in Caherlag at 7pm and then take on Cobh the following week at 8pm on Monday 24th...

Minor Hurlers outlast Blackrock to reach Semi Finals

Rebel óg East Minor A Hurling Championship Quarter Final Wed 5th August – Church Road Carraig na bhFear 1-14 Blackrock 0-15 There was next to nothing between these two sides in the quarter final of the Rebel óg East Minor A Championship, but a crucial goal from Carraigs Cormac Murphy with 7 minutes remaining proved to be the decisive score. Carraig started brightly against a talented Rockies side and points from Aaron Cronin, Cormac Murphy and Oisin Crowley had us 0-05 to 0-01 in front after 12 minutes. Michael Ahern and Gary Geaney were playing well in the backs but a number of avoidable frees for Blackrock reduced the deficit to two points by the quarter stage. Oisin was on target from a free and Paul Sheehan also found his range as Carraig traded scores with the home side. In the closing stages of the half Blackrock began to gain a foothold and the sides were level by the 27th minute, 0-07 apiece. Another point from play nudged Carraig ahead again but they went in level at the break when a contentious point was awarded to Blackrock when most in attendance agreed a 65 was the correct decision. 0-08 each at the break and all to play for. Carraig started the second half well, Brendan Murphy was dominating in midfield while Oisins direct running was causing problems for the Rockies defenders. Conor O’Brien was in fine form in goal, with Gary Geaney and Thomas Coleman clearing a world of ball in front of him. It was blow for blow throughout the half, Carraig 0-13 to 0-12 ahead at the...
