County Minor Hurling Semi Final this Sunday

Rebel Og County Minor A Hurling Semi Final Sun 4th October 3:30pm in Ballygarvan Carraig na bhFear v Ahan Gaels Best of luck to our Minor Hurlers who are back in championship action this weekend when they take on West Cork Champions Ahan Gaels in the County Minor A Hurling Semi Final in Ballygarvan. Carraig lost out to Courcey Rovers by 5 points in a fantastic East Region Final in early September. Courceys await the winner of this tie in the County final, with Ahan Gaels impressing on their way to the Western Region title, where they defeated Ibane Gaels in the final. These sides have met before, in the 2011 County U14 final, where Ahan were winners by a single point after a very close game. Lead by Brendan Murphy, Oisin Crowley and Conor Hayes, Carraigs side from that night is largely intact, but there are some new, younger faces in the team also who have made big impressions this year, with Jack Ahern and Cormac Murphy now key figures. Unfortunately we will be without the services of Thomas O’Driscoll, who suffered an injury in a recent challenge game, we wish him all the best in his recovery! Throw in time in Ballygarvan on Sunday is 3:30pm, so please come along and support the team in this huge game for them and the...

Defeat for U14 Hurlers and Minor Footballers

No joy for our two teams in action this past weekend as both our Minor Footballers and U14 hurlers bowed out of their respective championships on a gloomy Sunday afternoon. Our Minors were defeated by a more efficient Ballygarvan side on a 4-06 to 1-07 scoreline in a tough match played in the Carraig na bhFear college pitch, after the original venue of Blarney was deemed unplayable late yesterday morning, understandably after the heavy rain of the previous few hours. The lads must now regroup and focus on their County Hurling quarter final against Western opposition in a fortnights time. Our U14 hurlers produced a great second half display in Passage later in the afternoon, but a 3 goal half time lead proved to be too much to bridge, as West Cork Champions Kilbree held on to win. Trailing 3-03 to 0-03 at the break, the lads stormed back into the game in the second half but at the final whistle, the scoreline read 3-07 to 1-09 to the lads from Rossmore. A great performance from our boys who have come on in leaps and bounds all year. Some of their hurling has been top class and if a few more players can be added to the panel, the potential is there to go even further in the years ahead. Keep up the hard work...

Under 12 Hurlers claim Willie Ryan Trophy!

What a day for the Club’s Under 12 Hurling team. The 34th Willie Ryan Invitational Hurling Tournament took place in Aghada on Saturday 12th September. It was an early start for players and parents alike, the convoy of cars arriving from Carraig to Aghada’s GAA grounds at 9.15am. Despite the atrocious weather in the previous 24 hours the pitches were in immaculate condition and the sun was shining again. The first game of the tounament pitted our lads against hosts, Aghada. This tight affair was a sign of things to come as there was very little between all the teams involved throughout the day. David Dunphy and Billy Connolly controlled the game from their midfield berths and it took a great goal from Sean O’ Donoghue late in the second half  to decide the game. Next up was Fr O’ Neill’s and again there was only a puck of a ball between the two teams at the final whistle. The highlight of this match was a sensational save from stand in ‘keeper, Joe Dunphy. Our regular dependable shotstopper, Martin Murphy, couldn’t make the tournament today and Joe stepped forward to fill Martin’s “boots”. An unenviable task for anyone who has seen Martin in action! Joe’s Under 10 team mates, Micheal Murphy and Robert Sheehan also answered late calls, to make up the team sheet numbers and what a shift these lads put in including 3 clean sheets from Joe and his defenders. Two wins in a row and things were looking good but next up was Castlelyons and these two teams have had some great battles over their short careers so far. Castlelyons were on top in...
