Junior A footballers defeat Dungourney in Round 1

East Cork JAFC 1st Round Carraig na bhFear 2-12 Dungourney 2-06 Sun 26th March Our Junior A Footballers advanced to round 3 of the East Cork Junior A Football Championship with a well deserved win over Dungourney in a sunny and windy Rathcormac on Sunday. Carraig got off to a great start, with Cormac Hill setting up Oisin Crowley for an early goal. Aided by the strong wind and some solid play from midfield duo Shane Horgan and Paul O’Keeffe, Carraig took a 1-08 to 0-03 to the half time break but the game was far from done, as Dungourney’s formidible and pacy attack was turned to play with the aid of the elements. Sure enough, the Duns came strong, two goals in the 1st 15 minutes of the half, with Carraig only managing a couple of points from the trusty boot of Oisin in reply, left just 4 points between the sides entering the final quarter. But Carraigs defence held firm against the onslaught, with Brendan Murphy leading the way in attack with some driving runs and this lead to two pointed frees from Oisin, as Dungourney added three points. Going into the closing few minutes just three points separated the sides, before Carraig forced home a late goal from that man Oisin again, to seal the win. Well done to the team and their management and hard luck to a fine Dungourney side, who played their part in an entertaining championship owner. Team: Colm O’Reilly Colm Cooney, Daniel Coleman (Capt), Tomás Sheehan Aaron Dorgan, Timmy Geaney, Paul Geaney, Shane Horgan, Paul O’Keeffe John Forde, Brendan Murphy, Cormac...
