Carraig na bhFear U21’s march on!

East Cork U21 C Football Championship Quarter Final – Sun 25th March Carraig na bhFear 0-11 Lisgoold 1-05. Carraig na bhFear’s U21 footballers delivered an accomplished and balanced performance to march into another East Cork semi final, after a feisty affair with Lisgoold in the quarter final of the East Cork U21 “C” Football Championship at Carraig na bhFear. Carraig made one change to the previous weeks team, with Tim Hegarty stepping into the half back line for the injured Thomas O Driscoll. For the first few minutes, both teams took awhile to find their shooting boots. Oisin Crowley opened Carraig’s account with a free, followed immediately by a Lisgoold score from a free. Carraig got the next two scores in the game, again from the boot of Crowley, who was quite adept at scoring from both near and further afield distances. Lisgoold replied with a good team score after 16 minutes, but then Carraig moved up a few gears. David Sweeney and Gary Geaney were influential in the full back line, repelling a lot of dangerous attacks. In tandem, Michael Aherne at centre back and Oisin Crowley at centre forward started to drive the team forward and dominate their positions. Three classy scores from play by Brendan Murphy, Conor O’Brien and Paul Sheehan moved Carriag four clear. With Carraig’s half back line playing with great fire and tenacity, Carraig harvested a further two points in the last 3 minutes of the half, through Crowley and Sheehan. Half time score 0-8 to 0-2 in Carraig’s favour. Lisgoold started the second half with a lot of gusto and they enjoyed...

Carraig na bhFear Under 21’s back on track

Carraig na bhFear 0-16 Carraigtwohill 1-06. On another of those cold wintry nights that we unfortunately have become so used to, Carraig na bhFear, with a certain degree of flair and hardwork, advanced to the third round of the East Cork U21 “C” Championship. Carraig started strongly, with Oisin Crowley and Paul Sheehan to the forefront. Carraig raced to a 0-5 to 0-0 lead within the first ten minutes, with Crowley and Sheehan sharing two each and Thomas Coleman racing up from the half back line to score a classy point. Gradually Carraigtwohill started to come more into the game and they registered two points from play. But Carraig, after a small period of stagnation, finished the half with another flurry of scores, courtesy of the aforementioned O Crowley (two frees) and another point from P Sheehan. It was also noteworthy that the scoreline would have been greater if not for three marvellous saves from the Carraigtwohill goal keeper. Half time score; 0-8 to 0-2 in favour of the men from Carraig. Carraig na bhFear continued to dictate matters in the second half, with another variety of pointscorers in the first 8 minutes. B Murphy, J Aherne and C O ‘Brien kept the scoreboard ticking over with some stylish point taking. However the one unfortunate moment of the match occurred when Thomas O’Driscoll acquired an injury to his knee. There was a significant delay to proceedings whilst Thomas received some assistance. Thankfully Thomas was able to walk off the field with some help and everyone at the club wishes him well in his recovery. For the remainder of the match, Carraig na bhFear were in a comfortable position and kept Carraigtwohill at...
