Carraig Show Character to Secure a Draw

East Cork Junior Hurling League Div 1 Wed 23rd May – Cobh Cobh 0-19 Carraig na bhFear 0-19   In the third round of fixtures for the East Cork Junior A Hurling League, Carraig na bhFear visited the seaport town of Cobh on a sunny Wednesday evening, May 23. In a game that was placed with a good tempo and with a little bit of bite from both sides, it took an equalizing ’65 free from John Forde to earn Carraig the draw. A fair result you might ask? Probably, as both sides had good periods of dominance without being able to pull away fully from their opponents. The first half was fast and open. Cobh started well and after 12 minutes took a lead of six points to two. The Carraig full back line was under a bit of pressure at this time, but gradually Paul Geaney started to nullify the dangerous Cobh number 14.  Increased possession won at midfield and in the half back lead to Carraig shooting some excellent points. John and James Forde, Timmy Geaney and Paul Murphy shot points from distance and with the onset of half time, Carraig went in ahead, leading by twelve points to eleven. Do thosaigh na fir on Charraig go maith sa dara leath. Do thiomain Timmy Geaney dha chuilin den scoth on taobh dheis den bpairc.  Do bhi Aaron Dorgan, Gary Geaney agus Michael Aherne i mbarr a reime sa line leath chulai agus da bhri sin, do bhi a lan seilbh ag Carraig. Ach do chiallamar tri seans lena cheile chun cul a fhail agus mar a...

The indomitable spirit of Carraig na bhFear prevails in tight finish

East Cork JAFC 1st Round Sat 19th May, Venue: Lisgoold Carraig na bhFear 0-11 Glenbower Rovers 0-10.  Without doubt, when club members look back on this game, a deep sense of pride and satisfaction will be the underlying emotions, as our Junior Football team upset the odds and won the first round of the East Cork Junior “A” Football Championship in Lisgoold, last Saturday evening, May 19. This was a game that tested the depth and resilience of our championship squad as a number of senior players were missing due to an unfortunate clash of events. Ach mar a deirtear ‘ Is iomair cor sa tsaol” agus sin mar a tharla. There was a fantastic honesty of endeavour to Carraig’s performance. Laoch na hImeartha Sean O hArgain, ag imirt i lar na bpairce, do thug se ceannas agus treo mor da fhoireann. The game was even enough in the first fifteen minutes, with Killeagh leading 0-03 to 0-02, our scores coming from the boot of Colm O’Reilly and Paul O’Keeffe. But buoyed on by strong play at the back from Dee O’ Driscoll and Gary Geaney, Carraig kicked five scores without response, including a brace from O’ Reilly and John Forde, and went in at half time 0-07 to 0-04 in front. On the resumption of play in the second half, Carraig kicked another two more points and led by five points after 13 minutes of the second half. Gradually Glenbower started to creep into the game, and they started to erode our lead. The difference was whittled down to one when Colm O Reilly kicked his seventh point and put two between us with five to play. Glenbower added another...
