Bright Start to East Cork Campaign for Carraig’s Hurlers

East Cork Junior Hurling Championship First Round Carraig na bhFear 2-22 Fr O’Neills 1-12 Carrigtwohill, June 24th. An ability to keep the scoreboard ticking over while not letting Fr O’ Neills gain a significant foothold, paved the way for a handsome victory for the Carraig na bhFear Junior hurlers,in the opening round of the East Cork Oil Junior A hurling championship, at a sun kissed Carrigtwohill on Sunday last. Do bhi slua maith ag siul le cluiche suimiuil agus gearr, ach deanta na firinne, tar eis an chead treimshe, do bhi Carraig i mbarr a reime go dti an deireadh. While the opening quarter was a relatively close affair with early O’Neills scores being cancelled out by John Forde and centre forward Timmy Geaney, Carraig’s greater stick work and application came to the fore as the half wore on. Aided by stern defending from Daniel Coleman, Brian Hegarty and James Forde, allowed for a plentiful supply of ball to a devastating half forward trio of John Forde, Timmy Geaney and Paul Murphy who accounted for 12 points of the first half total . In addition both corner forwards Paul O’Keefe and David Sweeney struck over points of their own to give Carraig a healthy lead of 15 points to seven at the short whistle. Carraig took over from where they left off on the resumption with heavy pressure on the O’Neills backs resulting in a turn over and subsequent goal by David Sweeney.  Do bhi Carraig  aon phointe deag chun cinn agus ni bheadh ach cuig noimead  imithe sa dara leath. Carraig Hurlers Garner another Two points Away from Home.

East Cork Junior Hurling League Division 1 – Sat 16th June @ Lisgoold Carraig na bhFear 1-22 Lisgoold 0-18 In a fixture that has always had a bit of “bite” to it, Carraig na bhFear Junior Hurlers took the two points on offer against Lisgoold, in the East Cork Junior Hurling League, on Saturday last, June 16th. With a week to go to the first round of the hurling championship, the team was keen to put in a strong display and to keep building confidence and spirit within the camp. The story of the game could be summed up in one sentence, it was played on Carraig’s terms. There was a good pace and tempo to their play, with Martin Hickey, the Forde brothers and Aaron Dorgan strong in around the middle third. A dominant half forward line of John Forde, Timmy Geaney and Paul Murphy dominated possession on their own puck out and this lead to a plethora of scoring chances. Carraig lead by five points to four after 15 minutes, and they pushed the lead out further with a well taken goal by Brendan Murphy, profiting from strong interplay between Paul Murphy and Timmy Geaney. Half time score: Carraig 1-11, Lisgoold 0-08. The second half saw a reduction in tempo as Carraig always seemed to answer a Lisgoold score with one of their own, and thus making sure the win was never in threat. The full back line of Brian Hegarty, Stephen Casey and Daniel Coleman were very efficient and secure in possession which meant that Lisgoold could never create a goal chance that could ignite a...

Stirring Second Half sees Carraig Footballers win in Style

Carraig na bhFear 0-17 Cloyne 1-09. East Cork Junior “A” Football Championship Quarter Final. Sat 9th June – Lisgoold For those of us with a negative disposition or prone to casual cliches, they could have found much to support the view that this was the’ same old Carraig’ following the first half of this JAFC quarter final at Lisgoold on Saturday evening last. True the men in green and red had started brightly. Opening points from the boot of Paul O’Keefe (x2), Paul Murphy and Colm O’Reilly had moved them into a lead of four points to one. However, a crucial inability to engage in the physical battle in the middle third, gave Cloyne a foothold that propelled them into swift action. They rattled off 1-5 with the probings of Paudie O Sullivan to the fore. A solitary point in reply from James Forde gave them a tidy lead of 1-6 to five points at the short whistle. Carraig trundled off to the dressing room with questions wringing in their ears about their mental constitution for the battle. Do bhi udar imni ann I measc  phobail na Carraige. We are all prone to believing that half time orations inspire teams to greater things. There was no doubt that our lads were in a hole. “in umar na haimileise, ‘se an smaoineamh  a bhi ag fear amhain. And in these scenarios, it takes courage, self awareness of ones mistakes and key tactical interventions to stem the tide. When the vital corrections in terms of application and personnel were made, the team were transformed. Mar a deireann an seanfhocail    “Teann focal...
