Rebel Óg Féile Hurling Semi Final
Sun 15th May – Caherlag
Tracton 3-5 Carraig na bhFear 1-5
Carraig na bhFear U14’s headed to Caherlag this afternoon hoping to advance to the Cork Feile final but just fell short to a strong Tracton team.
This was a fiercely competitive game straight from the throw-in and Tracton got off to great start with an unstoppable early goal. Carraig didn’t panic and fought their way back in to the game. Despite the early setback goalkeeper Darragh Tattan and his full back line of Dylan Foley(Captain) and Ciaran O’Regan came more into the game and were clearing most attacks. Our first point came from Billy Connolly, scoring a trademark point from the right wing and this was followed shortly afterwards by a magnificent run and sublime point by Felix Murphy.
Our inside forward line of Sean O’ Donoghue and Evan Quealey were now causing problems for the opposition’s full back line but Tracton stepped up a gear and posted two 2 great points from distance. Some great passages of play followed over the next few minutes where there was no let-up in the frantic pace. Great credit to our half back line of David Fitzpatrick, Tadhg O’Donoghue and Ciaran Aherne who fought for every puck out and breaking ball.
Just before half time free taker, Luke Cremin, held his nerve to put over 2 superb points from frees. This was a great boost before half time and there was only the bare minimum between the teams at half time, Tracton leading 1-2 to 0-4.
Goals were always going to be the main deciding factor in this game and Tracton seemed to have the greater goal threat and hit Carraig for 1-3 in quick succession early in the second half to lead by 7 points. While a lot of teams might have thrown in the towel at this stage, this setback seemed to spur on the lads and the next five minutes saw Carraig push forward with purpose. David Dunphy and Luke Cremin were doing well in midfield and providing great service to the Colm Murphy and Jason Cashman Cronin who was introduced at half time.
Tadhg O’ Donoghue was continually pushing forward and scored a great goal followed by another Carraig point. There was now just 4 points between the teams and despite some great runs and goal efforts from Luke Cremin and Billy Connolly, the Tracton goalkeeper was on top form and made some superb saves to maintain their lead
Tracton defended with great purpose and wrapped the game up with a great goal in the final couple of minutes to leave the final score at 3-5 to 1-5.
Well done to all of the lads who played a part in the Feile 2016 journey over the last two weekends. You are all a credit to the club and your families and should be very proud of you contributions.
No rest for these lads though as they head into the first round of the U14B Hurling Championship versus Castlelyons on Wednesday 18th May at 7.15pm.
