A disappointing weekend on the playing fields for Carraig last weekend.
Hard luck to our u16 footballers who were beaten by Crosshaven in the Rebel Og East U16 C Football Championship final on Saturday in Ballincollig on a scoreline of 7-9 to 3-10.
The lads gave it everything but short some key players through injury it was an uphill task. Well done lads on reaching the final, keep up the hard work.
Commiserations to our Minor hurlers who lost to West Cork Champions Ahan Gaels in the Rebel Óg County Championship semi final on Sunday in Ballygarvan. Ahan lead from the off and at half time held a commanding 1-10 to 0-05 lead, with Carraig struggling to get up to speed a month after their last competitive outing.
But the lads fought back bravely and a late goal left only 3 points in it, but there was no time to force an equaliser as we lost out on a score of 1-16 to 1-13.
Well done to all the lads for the tremendous effort they have put in throughout the year. It was a big step up from competing at B grade last year and the small panel of around 19 players gave it everything. Losing key players like Christopher Cremin and Thomas O’Driscoll to injury made things even harder, but the u15s who answered the call made a great impact.
Some of the team have already made positive impressions at Junior ranks and there is no doubt more will follow, as these lads have shown a great willingness to learn and improve continously. A huge thanks to Gavin Webb, Brian Hegarty and John Hayes for their work with the team all year. Keep it going lads, your day will come!
