Under 15's lose out narrowly in East Cork Final
09/03/2010
On Sunday last, Carraig's under 15 Footballers faced Aghada in the East Cork U15 B Football Championship final. A pulsating tie saw Aghada run out winners by a narrow margin, 1-07 to 0-07. Despite conceding two early points, Carraig dominated the first half, with John Forde and Eoin O'Keeffe prominent in midfield, Sean O'Sullivan leading the defence and Oisin Crowley causing problems in attack. A number of good scoring chances went abegging howwever and at half time the sides were level 0-04 each. Aghada took an early lead in the second half and after a sustained period of pressure, they broke through for the games only goal, ten minutes into the half, to leave them 1-05 to 0-04 up. Carraig were not about to lie down and only a top class save from the Aghada goalkeeper kept out John Forde's excellent shot soon afterwards, which deserved to raise a green flag. Carraig added on two points as they pressed for the crucial scores that would bring them level, but some near misses left Aghada off the hook. Aghada added further points late on to stretch their lead and a late Carraig point was not enough as Carraig lost out narrowly in the end.
Hard luck to the team and their mentors, the year is young yet and if the effort and commitment on show last Sunday is anything to go by, this team will take some stopping later in the season at Under 16 and Under 14 level.

Another busy weekend for Carraig players, selectors and supporters. On Friday night, 3rd September, we face Cloyne in the semi final of the East Cork Junior A Football Championship. Cloyne will represent our toughest challenge to date, having won the title for the last two years. This game has the early evening throw in time of 6:30pm in Lisgoold. So come along and support the team as they bid to reach the final for the second time in three years.
Then, on Saturday, 4th September, its off to Killeagh where the Minor Hurlers take on Cobh in the East Cork Minor B hurling championship final. This team have shown great enthusiasm and desire all year and if they can put in a big performance, then they will be in with a great chance of claiming the title. The match is the warm up game to the East Cork Junior A Hurling final, and takes place at 4:15pm on Saturday in Killeagh.
Best of luck to both teams, give it everything lads!
