Sat 24th May – Mourneabbey
Clyda Rovers 0-10 Carraig na bhFear 0-15
On a wet and dark night in Mourneabbey, Carraig made it 6 wins from 7 outings in the Junior Hurling
league division one, thanks to a five point win over Clyda Rovers. Carraig, minus the services of
a number of regulars, took control early on and made the best of the difficult conditions. Aaron
Dorgan and John Forde lead the way in the forwards, while the backs dealt well with Clydas attacks,
with Brian Hegarty and Paul Geaney showing well on the wings. Carraig opened up a six point lead at
the break, keeping the home side to just two converted frees in the closing stages as the score read
Carraig 0-08 Clyda 0-02.
The second half was a stop start affair, with Carraig making a number of changes throughout. John
Walsh showed well at full forward and took two well taken points. He was ably assisted by Brendan
Murphy who picked off a fine point midway through the half, while John Forde continued to convert
any frees which came his way. Clyda made a late surge in the closing stages to reduce the margin,
but at full time it was Carraig who took the points on a scoreline of 0-15 to 0-10. With two games
remaining to play, Carraig now know that two wins will guarantee them a semi final berth in this
competition.
