Rebel Og County Minor B Hurling Championship
Semi Final
Sat 20th Sept – Donoughmore
Carraig na bhFear 2-07 Dromtarriffe 1-07
Our Minor Hurlers have qualified for the County Minor B Hurling Championship final for first time since 2005 with a hard fought win over North Cork Champions Dromtarriffe in Donoughmore. Dromtarriffe had the better of the early exchanges and lead by 0-03 to 0-01 after 8 minutes. Carraig began to settle into the game and were level after 12 minutes, as both sides hit a number of wides in difficult underfoot conditions. Carraig keeper Christopher Cremin was called into action on a number of occasions but cleared his lines well, with Diarmuid Murphy and Cathal Cronin performing well in front of him. By half time there was still no separating the sides, with the score Carraig 0-05 Dromtarriffe 0-05 in a low scoring game.
The game turned quickly at the start of the second half however, as Carraig struck for two early goals to put us in the driving seat. A point followed on the 36th minute to put us 7 points in front before Dromtarriffes centre back picked up a second yellow card with 20 minutes to play. Carraigs extra man allowed the team to soak up any pressure but the scores dried up from here, with Carraig adding just one further point, a late score from the excellent Paul Sheehan, who gave a man of the match performance at midfield throughout. Dromtarriffe pressed hard to get the scores they needed to get back into the game, but a combination of poor shot selection and Christopher Cremin in goal kept them at bay. With a minute to go, Dromtarriffe goaled from a 21 yard free to leave the score 2-07 to 1-07 entering injury time, but Carraig withstood the onslaught and advance to the County final in a few weeks time against either Kilmeen/Kilbree or Millstreet.
Well done to the team and to Gavin Webb and Mark Crowley, who have done a great job with these lads all year. One more massive step to take now lads!
