Recalling the heroes of 1975

With the East Cork Junior A Football Final taking place tonight, although we are not there after our defeat last week, we thought we’d look back and honour the victorious Carraig na bhFear Junior A Footballers from 1975, who won the clubs one and only East Cork Junior A Football Championship that year.

In May of this year, Carraig na bhFear G A A held a Special Event to Celebrate winning a historic double, East Cork Junior A Football Championship and League in 1975; 41 years. This at a time when there were no Senior or Intermediate Football Teams in East Cork. Competition was a little different.

The get together though a few months late was a most enjoyable event.
Present were.
L to R.
Front. Don Hegarty[team member, Chairman 2008 to 2012.] Tommy Sheehan, Runai 75, Seamus O’Reilly, Chairman 75 and Eddie Hegarty, Treasurer 75, current club president; Bernard Lynch, Captain 75 Team, Michael O’Keeffe, Selector 75, and Dan J Foley Chairman, 2016.
Middle Row. Sean Walsh, Dr Dan Crowley, Liam Crowley, Tom Gallagher, Gearoid Duggan, Dermot O ‘Driscoll.[Club Chairman 2013 -2015] and Noel Miller.
Back Row; Michael Mullins, Pat Forde, Dan O’Keeffe, John Carroll, Jack O’Keeffe and William Scanlon.

Special tributes were paid to three members of the group who have gone to their eternal reward. They were; team coach Fr Pat Duffy M S C, Micheal Foley and Teddy Duggan.
Just two panel members are living abroad and one had another function on the night.

During the entire 1975 season the team lost just 1 game the Co final to Bandon, who by a strange coincidence had to wait until 2015 [40 years] to win their 2nd Co Junior football Championship.
