Carraig Take League Title with Convincing Win
|
| |
20/09/2008 U14 Hurling League Final Carraig na bhFear 10-6 Lisgoold 4-12 The under 14's bounced back from their unlucky extra-time defeat
to Bride Rovers in the championship final, to claim the league title in
emphatic fashion. Playing old rivals Lisgoold -- led by the
outstanding John Cashman, and who've had the indian sign over this
Carraig team in previous years -- they were determined to make up for
previous disappointments. Despite a slow start in which Lisgoold had
the upper hand Carraig finished the half strongly, and the two man full
forward line of Rory Burke and Fergal Deane looked dangerous every time
the ball went in. Two goals from Deane late in the half saw Carraig
ahead by a point at half-time, 4-1 to 2-6. Driven on by the
industrious James Meehan and Eoin O'Keeffe, Carraig took the game to
their opponents in the second half. The excellent long-range free
taking of John Forde, a steady defence anchored by Alan Cahill, and
wonderful forward play which yielded six further goals, saw Carraig run
out comfortable winners on a scoreline of 10-6 to 4-12.
Captain Alan Cahill accepted the cup on behalf of his team mates, and
paid tribute to the play of a very game Lisgoold team. Well done to
all involved, especially trainers Jim Meehan and James Cooney.
The team was:
Joe O'Donnell
Colm Cooney, Kynan Rocks,
James Forde, Alan Cahill, Eoghan Buckley,
James Meehan, John Forde,
Greg McDonnell, Eoin O'Keeffe, Sean O'Sullivan,
Rory Burke, Fergal Deane.
Subs: Ronan Parkinson, Eamon Quinlan, Aaron O'Donoghue, Oisin Crowley.

Under 14's advance to East Cork Final
12/06/2008
East Cork Under 14 Hurling Semi Final Carraig na bhFear 3-13 Aghada 2-7
Carraig
na bhFear progressed to the final of the East Cork U14 C Hurling
Championship with a well deserved win over Aghada last night. Playing
against the wind in the first half, Carraig trailed by 4 points at the
interval. But a much improved second half performance, which saw the
team make much better use of possession, results in a fine win for the
lads. James Meehan scored 2 goals for Carraig, one a cracking effort
from a 21 yard free, while James Forde also got another excellent goal,
capping the move of the game by collecting a pass from his brother
John, before finishing well to the bet. Sean O'Sullivan and Greg
McDonnell were influential throughout for Carraig, who now face the
winners of Lisgoold V Bride Rovers in the final. Well done lads, keep up the hard work.
