Under 15's claim football title
08/03/2009

Carraig na bhFear produced a fantastic second half display to clinch the East Cork Under 15 C (13 a-side) Football Championship for 2009, defeating a gallant Lisgoold team on a scoreline of 1-13 to 1-06.
Carraig started well, taking a two point lead with scores from Sean O'Sullivan and Jack O'Shea, as early pressure in the windy conditions paid dividends. Lisgoold received a great boost when they found the back of the net to take the lead, and they added two further points to extend their lead, before O'Sullivan pointed from a free to reduce the margin. Both sides traded points again, O'Sullivan on target once more for the home team, but Lisgoold finished the half the better, adding two more points to Carraigs one, to leave them in a strong position at the interval, leading on score of 1-05 to 0-04.
Whatever was said at half time should be bottled and sold for a sizeable profit. Carraig came out a different team and took control of the game in all areas of the field. Jack O'Shea got Carraig off to the perfect restart, his early goal giving confidence to those around him, and the team put together a great display of unselfish play. Points from John Forde (3), Greg O'Donnell, captain Alan Cahill, James Forde and Eoin O'Keeffe put Carraig into a commanding lead. Lisgoold played their hearts out but could not rediscover their first half form, only adding a point to their tally in the second half. Carraig defended well and attacked as a team, producing some good football in the poor conditions. At the final whistle Carraig ran out deserving winners on a scoreline of 1-13 to 1-06.
Team Captain Alan Cahill accepted the cup on behalf of his team mates and the celebrations began.
This is a great start to the year for the club and with some more hard work at home and on the training field, these lads can enjoy even more success later in the season. Well done to all.
