Carraig na bhFear Juvenille GAA Club AGM
  Venue: Scoil an Athar Tadhg
Date: Friday 5th December, 8:00pm

The Annual General Meeting of Carraig na bhFear Juvenille GAA will take place on Friday night, 5th December in Scoil an athar Tadhg.

The importance of this meeting cannot be overstated.
We have found it extremely difficult to get more adults to become involved in the juvenile club.  This is going to lead to problems as the existing officers, trainers and selectors bow out.  If they are not replaced, parts of the juvenile club will lapse.
There are various ways people can help out, from training/selecting teams, to texting players, writing reports of matches for the www.carraignabhfeargaa.com website, helping with gear, becoming an officer of the club etc.
We badly need new adults to get involved.  Too often people are prepared to criticize those in charge of teams but refuse to become involved themselves.  Without new people coming on board, much of the momentum of the juvenile club will be lost, and the future well-being of the adult club will obviously be affected.

In 2008, the following successes were achieved:
Under Twelves: League winners, hurling
Under Thirteens: Championship winners football
Under Fourteens: League winners, hurling
Under Fifteens: Championship winners hurling.

We also reached a number of other finals, and were unlucky to come out on the wrong side of the result in these.

As the saying goes, every little helps, and every hand involved lightens the load and makes it more enjoyable for all, Parents and Children alike.
We are appealing to you as the parents whose children are benefiting from the voluntary work of the existing officers and mentors to get involved in helping the juvenile club continue to thrive, if you feel you have something to offer, no matter how small, then why not give it a shot?
If you are new to the area and considering getting involved, you are especially welcome to attend.

Rockbán win County Senior B Championship Title
30/11/2008

Congratulations to Rockbán on their fabulous success in the Cork County Senior B Camogie Championship on Sunday. Rockbán defeated Eire Og in a tough and close game on a scoreline of Rockbán 1-08 Eire Og 0-06.
The crucial score came midway through the 2nd half when Intercounty star Síle Burns saw her long range effort drop into the net out of the hand of the unfortunate goalkeeper to put Rockbán six points to the good.
Cathriona Foley picked up the player of the match award with an outstanding display at centre back, ably assisted by her sisters Mairead and Colleen in the half back line, while up front, Burns and Valerie Mulcahy led the way.
Captain Therese Howard accepted the trophy on behalf of the team.
Well done to all involved in this success, another trophy coming to the locality, to bring the curtain down on a truly memorable season on the field.
Ar aghaidh na mná!

Carraig na bhFear have won the East Cork Junior B Football Championship with a one point win over Bride Rovers in Glenville today, on a scoreline of Carraig 1-04 Bride Rovers 0-06.
A low scoring first half played in windy conditions gave way to a much better second half and a crucial goal from Darren Noonan midway through the half set Carraig on their way.

Well done to the team, captain Nicky Pike, and the management team of Aidan O'Reilly, Mick Sherlock, Noel Walsh and Seamus O'Reilly on this win, a great way to wrap up the playing season for 2008.

East Cork Junior B Football Final
Carraig na bhFear V Bride Rovers
Sat 22nd November, 2:30pm - Glenville

Carraig na bhFear will take on Bride Rovers in the East Cork Junior B football final on Saturday next in Glenville at 2:30pm. Carraig will be hoping to go one step further than our last final appearance in 2005, when we were defeated by Castlelyons. Bride Rovers will be strong opponents as always and a good game is in prospect. Carraig have been in good form in this championship, despite losing a number of players to the Junior A team throughout the year.
Once again, we would ask all our supporters to come along and give the team their support.
Best of luck to all the team and their management, as they look to bring the year to a close on a high.

Ar aghaidh na bhFear!

Medal Presentation

Dear Parents,

You are cordially invited to attend a function in where medals will be presented to our victorious juvenile teams.

Four teams were successful during the year:

  • Under Twelves, League winners, hurling
  • Under Thirteens, Championship winners football
  • Under Fourteens, League winners, hurling
  • Under Fifteens, Championship winners hurling.

In addition a number of other teams qualified for finals, but were unsuccessful.

These successes are testament to the hard work going on in the juvenile club.   They complement the successes at adult level, and to mark the achievements of the adult club the medals will be presented by:

  • Cathriona Foley (Cork Camogie Captain),
  • Sile Burns (Cork Camogie Vice Captain),
  • Timmy Geaney (Junior Hurling Captain),
  • Shane Horgan (Junior Football Captain).

While we celebrate these successes we must also sound a word of warning.

We have found it extremely difficult to get more adults to become involved in the juvenile club.  This is going to lead to problems as the existing officers, trainers and selectors bow out.  If they are not replaced, parts of the juvenile club will lapse.  There are various ways people can help out, from training/selecting teams, to texting players, writing reports of matches for the excellent www.carraignabhfeargaa.com website, helping with gear, becoming an officer of the club etc.  We badly need new adults to get involved.  Too often people are prepared to criticize those in charge of teams but refuse to become involved themselves.  Without new people coming on board, much of the momentum of the juvenile club will be lost, and the future well-being of the adult club will obviously be affected.

We are appealing to you as the parents whose children are benefiting from the voluntary work of the existing officers and mentors to get involved in helping the juvenile club continue to thrive.
The medal presentation will take place in Scoil an Athar Tadhg on Thursday November 20th at 8pm.
Please come, and be prepared to offer to give us a dig out in the coming year.

Michael O'Donnell,  Chairperson.

Best of luck Cathriona and Sile
  17/08/2008

Due to the inclement weather over the weekend, The Cork V Tipperary All Ireland Senior Camogie Championship Semi Final was postponed yesterday.
This fixture is of particular interest to those of us in the Carraig na bhFear club, as this year, both the captain and vice captain of the team hail from our Parish and both have represented our club successfully at underage level in the past.
Cathriona Foley captains the team from full back and she is ably assisted by her vice Captain Sile Burns, who will be hoping to add to her impressive scoring tally in the full forward line. Both of these players played for Carraig na bhFear up to Under 12 level, until the foundation of the Rockban club in 1997. Last year, they were key members of the Muskerry team that won the Cork Senior Championship, with Cathriona captaining the side on that occasion.

We wish the girls the very best of luck in their efforts to reach the final.

The match has been refixed for next Sunday, 24th August in Nowlan Park, Kilkenny. Throw in is 1:30pm.
