16/01/2010
The delayed 2009 AGM of Carraig na bHFear GAA Club took place on Friday night, 15th January in Scoil an Athar Tadhg. Cathaoirleach Don Hegarty opened the meeting and welcomed all those in attendance. Runai Liam Spillane then read out the mnutes of the 2008 AGM, which were in order and adopted by the meeting. He then proceeded to his own report, outlining the activities for the past year in Junior Hurling and Football, Under 21 Hurling and Football and also Minor Hurling and Football. The secretary noted that while the year may not have lived up to the highs of 2008, Carraig were edged out by narrow margins on a number of occasions, particularly in hurling, where one point defeats in Junior A and Under 21 hurling, and the heartbreaking late defeat to Midleton in the East Cork Junior B hurling final, proving that the margin between success and failure is very narrow. He thanked all those who worked tirelessly throughout the year, in coaching and preparing teams, the lotto committee, grounds committee, his fellow officers and members who assisted him throughout the year when called upon. 2009 was a great year for the club in Scor, with four East Cork titles won at Adult level, with our Ballad group reaching the Munster final in Cappoquin. Liam extended his thanks and congratulations to all involved in Scor. Liam also congratulated the underage club on yet another successful year, with trophies gathered at all ages, and he also thanked Dermot O'Driscoll and his staff in Scoil an Athar Tadhg for the work they continue to put into promotion of the games in the school. The treasurers report was prepared by Micheal & Daniel Foley, and in their absence, it was read out by runai Liam Spillane. Again, the accounts show the club to be in a good financial position, with expenditure slightly down on previous years. The Lotto committee then presented their financial report for the year, which showed that when all expenses were taken into account for the year, including the money provided to both the adult and juvenille sections of the club, the Lotto ran at a loss. Income from the Lotto was again down and this is a trend that will need to be reversed immediately in order to secure the funding for the clubs day to day expenses in the coming year.
Cathaoirleach Don Hegarty then presented his report. He thanked his fellow officers for their help during the year, especially his secretary Liam Spillane. He commented on the playing activities of the year, noting that while the success of 2008 had not been replicated, he hoped that 2010 would be the year that Carraig na bhFear could go one step further in many competitions with the right application. We are now in the third year of the five year strategy implemented in late 2007 and he hoped that this would see all club members striving to improve standards on and off the pitch. He also thanked the members of the Lotto Committee for their tireless work week in, week out to keep the lotto running smoothly. A number of motions were proposed for discussion on the Agenda. These included: The separation of Junior hurling and football selection committees, which were one unit in 2009. this was passed. Lotto subscription to be added to the club membership fee, with the option for stage payments of Lotto throughout the year. This was passed - as part of this, it was also agreed on the night that the club registration night be held on the 5th February.
