Defeat for Minors in League Final
10/11/2009
Hard luck to
the Minor Footballers, who were defeated in the final of the East Cork
Minor B football League in Castlelyons on Sunday. The home side ran out
convincing winners on the day, with the final scoreline Castlelyons 2-10
Carraig na bhFear 0-08. The team has performed well all year and
made considerable progress, well done to all and keep up the hard work.
Late goal sees Midleton claim the title
27/10/2009
A late goal
for Midleton snatched victory in the East Cork Junior B Hurling
Championship final on Sunday 18th October. It was heartbreak for
Carraig, who played with incredible heart, spirit and skill for the
entire game. A Full report can be read here.
East Cork Junior B Hurling Final
13/10/2009 East Cork Junior B Hurling Championship Final Carraig na
bhFear V Midleton Sunday 18th Oct @ 3:30pm Venue:
Castlelyons
This Sunday Carraig na bhFear will take on
Midleton in the East Cork Junior B Hurling Championship final in
Castlelyons. Carraigs second team have been in great form all year,
losing just one league game and defeating Cloyne, Carrigtwohill and
Dungourney en route to the decider. This is the first time that our
second team has reached the final of the B Championship and on Sunday we
will be hoping to capture just our fourth ever title at this level.
Carraig won the Championship in its inaugural year in 1936 and retained
it in 1937. The trophy was last won in 1974.
Yet again the team
will face strong opposition, despite this being Midletons third adult
team, they have recorded high scoring wins over Cobh and Watergrasshill,
a tight victory over a strong Aghada team and three goal win over a
fancied Sarsfields team in the semi final. Carraigs players will be
under no illusions that a tough task lies ahead, but with a number of
last years successful Junior A side available, experience is not lacking
in the Carraig team. Nicky Pike, Darren Noonan, Stephen Casey, Tom
Neally, Tony Dunne and Ollie Murphy will provide the leadership, Gavin
Webb, Michael Geaney and Daniel Foley will provide the scoring threat up
front. Carraig have improved with each outing this year, with and
under the watchful eyes of Aidan O'Reilly, Mick Sherlock and Noel Walsh,
they will be hoping to go all the way and claim the Eamonn Fleming Cup
in Castlelyons on Sunday evening.
Once again, we call on our
supporters to come out in big numbers to support the team on Sunday. Best
of luck to all the panel and their mentors, give it everything, we're
all behind ye! Ar aghaidh na bhFear!
Under 16's claim East Cork Football Title
12/10/2009
A week after
their disappointing exit in the County hurling championship to Bantry,
the Under 16's bounced back from the disappointment in tremendous style
by capturing the East Cork Football Championship against Bride Rovers on
Saturday in Glenville. Carraig ran out winners on a scoreline of 5-11
to 0-06, with the defence in mean mood throughout and a total of nine
players finding the target. Well done to the team on this great
performance. Full report here.
Under 16's lose to Bantry in County Semi Final
05/10/2009
The Under 16 hurlers suffered
heartbreaking defeat in the County semi final on Saturday last when they
went down to a Strong Bantry team in Brinny. Despite a magnificent
display from Padraig O'Sullivan, Carraig struggled to get to grips with
the Bantry attack and three first half goals put the West Cork team into
a commanding lead. Carraig tried hard to get back into the game in the
second half but a late goal for Bantry sealed a 4-08 to 3-04 win. Hard
luck to the team, who played some great hurling during the year and
have shown that if they continue to train hard, they can certainly
compete at a higher level.
Junior A Footballers face Cloyne in league
02/10/2009
The Junior A footballers have a few
league matches remaining and on Sunday, they face East Cork Champions
Cloyne in Carraig at 12pm. The Junior B hurlers continue their
preparations for the East Cork final with a challenge game against
Ballinacurra after this match, throw in time 2pm.
Carraig go down to Russell Rovers in B Football
19/09/2009
The Junior B footballers relinquished their
grip on the East Cork Championship on Friday night when they were well
beaten by a sharp Russell Rovers side. The first half was an
extremely close affair, with Carraig trailing by a point at the
interval, but Rovers came out a different side after the interval and
pulled away from Carraig in the second half. Carraig tried hard to get
back into the game but could not pull back the sizeable lead built up
and in the end the scoreline read Russell Rovers 1-15 Carraig na bhFear
0-07. Full Report to follow
Football action takes centre stage
16/09/2009
The Junior A
Footballers were back in league action after a three month absence
against Glenville on Tuesday night in Carraig na bhFear. Both teams were
short a number of regulars but it was Carraig who dominated
proceedings, winning out on a scoreline of 2-12 to 0-06. Ronan Spillane
and Barrie Casey with the goals either side of half time for Carraig.
Best
of luck to the Carraig Minor Footballers, who are in championship
action tonight against Kiltha Og, in Castlelyons, throw in @ 6:15pm.
Carraig are unbeaten in the league to date so hopefully they can
continue this good run in the championship.
On Friday night, the
Junior B footballers are back in action when they face Russell Rovers in
the quarter final of the East Cork Championship in Rostellan at 7:30pm
under lights. Russell Rovers recently contested the County Junior B
final where they lost out narrowly so this will be an extremely tough
test for Carraig, who won the title in 2008. Best of luck to the team in
this one.
Weekend round up
14/09/2009
The Junior B
Footballers began the defence of their East Cork
Championship on Friday night last by defeating Ballinacurra in Cobh.
Carraig held a five point lead at the interval and despite some early
second half pressure from Ballinacurra, two well taken goals from Aidan
Hegarty and Brian Twomey sent Carraig through to the quarter final on a
scoreline of 3-12 to 0-08.
On Saturday, the Under 16 hurlers advanced to the semi final of the
County Championship with a well deserved victory over Glanworth in
Carraig. Two goal hero Ger Spillane lead the way for Carraig, who won
on a scoreline of 3-14 to 1-09. Full report to follow.
On Tuesday night next, the Junior A footballers are in league action,
when they take on Glenville in Carraig with a 6:45 throw in time. On
Wednesday, the Minor Footballers take on Kiltha Og in the East Cork
Minor B Football Championship. This game takes place in Castlelyons at
6:15pm. Your support as always is appreciated.
Last but not
least, Congratulations to Cathriona and Sile on their great win with the
Cork Camogie team on Sunday. The girls did the Parish proud and its
great to see two more All Ireland medals coming to Carraig na bhFear.
Well done to Cork Manager Denise Cronin and her team from all in carraig
na bhFear GAA.

win on a scoreline of Carraig 3-05 Castlelyons 1-10.

06/09/2009
Carraig na bhFear 3-14 Dungourney 2-10 A
great display of hurling from the Junior B team see's them progress to
the East Cork Junior B Championship final for 2009 after they overcame
Dungourney in Aghada on Saturday. Two first half goals, from Gavin Webb
and Tony Dunne set Carraig on their way and a third goal in the dying
minutes from Eamon Bowen sealed the win, which means, for the first
time, our second hurling team are in the East Cork final, a great
achievement. Full report here.

East Cork Under 16 C Hurling Championship
Final - Replay Carraig na bhFear 2-11 Lisgoold 1-09
Scene's
of great jubilation were the order of the night in Castlelyons as
Carraig na bhFear claimed the East Cork Under 16 C Hurling Championship
after another excellent hours play against Lisgoold on Friday night
last. After an exciting drawn encounter, Carraig produced a great
display to fight off a strong Lisgoold comeback in the second half and
win the title in impressive fashion. Full report here.
Congratulations
to all involved on this success.
Junior B Hurlers in Championship Semi final this Saturday
02/09/2009
East Cork Junior B
Hurling Championship Semi Final Carraig na bhFear V Dungourney Sat
6th Sept, Rostellan 4:15pm
Carraig na bhFear take on
Dungourney in the East Cork Junior B hurling championship semi final on
Saturday next in Rostellan at 4:15pm. This match is taking place before
the East Cork Junior A Hurling Final, which features Castlemartyr and
Sarsfields, so a big crowd is expected at the Aghada venue for this
fixture. Carraig have advanced to the semi final stage for the first
time in many years, having defeated Cloyne in the first round by a point
and Carrigtwohill by three points in the quarter final. Unusually for a
second team, the squad has strengthed since the last round with the
return of a few players from Holidays and injuries. Backboned by
experienced players like Nicky Pike, Tony Dunne, Stephen Casey, Tom
Neally and Bertie Sheehan, Carraig can also call on the youth of Daniel
Foley, Gavin Webb, Tyrone Kennedy, Darren and Jason Noonan and Richard
and Noel Mullins as they look to reach the final against a strong
Dungourney outfit. We wish them the best of luck in their efforts.
As
always, your support for the lads is appreciated, so come along and
give this team the backing they deserve.
Under 21's narrowly lose out to Killeagh
02/09/2009
Huge
disappointment for the under 21 hurlers as they lost out to Killeagh by
the narrowest of margins last night after an exciting hours hurling in
the East Cork Under 21 A Hurling Championship. Final score Killeagh 0-13
Carraig 0-12. Full report here.
Under 16's draw in East Cork Final
01/09/2009 Carraig na bhFear 1-13 Lisgoold 2-10
After
an action packed hour in Rathcormac, nothing could separate Carraig and
Lisgoold in this East Cork Under 16 C hurling Championship final last
evening. The scoring exploits of Padraig O'Sullivan, who registered 0-09
of Carraigs total, kept Carraig in the hunt for this Championship, as
his late free levelled the match for the seventh time over the course of
the game. Full report here.
Cúl Camp 2009 is a great success
28/08/2009
Over 80
Children attended the 2009 VHI Cúl Camp in Carraig na bhFear this week,
braving the inclement weather to improve their hurling and football
skills under the watchful eye of Cork Camogie Star Cathríona Foley and
her team of coaches. Despite the weather, a great time was had by all.
On Friday morning, the camp was visited by Cork Senior Football Star
Daniel Goulding. Daniel signed countless autographs, took photos and
answered some great questions from the Carraig stars of the future. He
encouraged all the children to keep practising their hurling and
footballing skills daily and who knows, they too might feature for Cork
in the future.
The Junior B's
have been busy in league action over the past five days. On Saturday
last, they took on Lisgoold in the Junior Hurling League Division 3, and
made it 6 wins from 7 with a fine performance, which will stand to them
as preparations continue for the semi final of the Junior B Hurling
Championship. Final Score Carraig 2-23 Lisgoold 0-15.
On Tuesday
night, the focus switched to the big ball, after a gap of nearly four
months, when the team took on Aghada in the Junior Football League
Division 3. Despite playing well and dominating much of the game, the
concession of two late goals let Aghada back into the game and the final
score saw both sides settling for the draw, Carraig 2-09 Aghada 3-06.
The First Round of the Junior B Football Championship has yet to be
fixed, but with the fixture schedule clearing up, this will no doubt be
played in the near future.

Juniors A's win while B's go down to Aghada in League
27/07/2009
There were
mixed fortunes for the Junior Hurling teams over the weekend in their
respective league fixtures. On Friday night, Carraig's Junior A hurlers
overcame a strong Midleton challenge in their final league outing, on a
scoreline of 1-18 to 2-14. Two second half goals for Midleton kept them
right in contention. Martin Hickey, Ronan Spillane, Paul Murphy and
Bernard Murphy were in top form for Carraig, who are now finalising
their preparations for next weekends eagerly awaited third round
championship clash with Dungourney. The win leaves Carraig in second
place in the league with 11 points from our 7 games, which may be good
enough for a place in the final depending on results elsewhere.
On
Saturday night, the Junior B Hurlers unbeaten league run came to halt
when they were beaten by a strong Aghada team in Rostellan. Tom Neally,
Stephen Casey, Nicky Pike and Tony Dunne fought hard for Carraig, but
the home side were on top throughout, running out winners 1-15 to 0-05

16th May, 7:30pm Venue:Lisgoold

Despite this, the team can call on the experience of reaching last years
East Cork Final, and winning the division one league title, as we face a
tough challenge against Carrigtwohill, who defeated Castlemartyr and
Ballinacurra to reach this stage. The game is fixed for Saturday,
7.30pm in Lisgoold, so come along and support your club as we bid to
make it to the semi final.
Lá na gClub
12/05/2009
Last Sunday was Lá na gClub, and the day
was a great success, right across the country. Carraig na bhFear was no
different. The day began with Mass for deceased members at 9am. At
lunchtime, the Club players together with mentors, members &
Parents gathered at Scoil an Athair Tadhg. A parade to the pitch led by
a piper from Carrigaline Pipe Band began from here. The Club Chairman,
Don Hegarty, welcomed the party to the pitch for this special occasion. The
centenary flag was then hoisted by Florrie Hegarty, who has a long and
proud association with the club. The afternoon events then got
underway. This included hurling and football games for the underage
section and later a football match for the Juniors. The programme
ran up to 5.30pm and the afternoon was blessed with good weather
conditions. The Clubhouse was decked out with memorabilia from the
past. Videos of former games ran throughout the afternoon bringing back
many memories and much laughter at events which are now history. Later
on in the evening, our Successful Scor participants (both past &
present) laid on some entertainment in the Arches bar, which was enjoyed
by all. This brought to an end a busy but extremely enjoyable Lá na
gClub in Carraig na bhFear.

Carraig na bhFear Victory Dinner Dance
11/01/2009
The Dinner
Dance was held last friday night in Vienna Woods and a great night was
had by the 200 plus guests in attendance. Special Guest on the night was
East Cork Board Chairperson Michael O'Brien from Aghada, who presented
the players with their medals for the victories in the Junior A football
league, Junior B football Championship and in particular the Junior A
Hurling Championship. Great credit must go to the organising commitee
for ensuring the smooth running of the event and hopefully there will
be plenty more good nights to follow!
